OrbRider version 1.5.2 releases new functionality for the client software to receive software updates and a minor update to re-enable the free to play radio. OrbRider version 1.5.2 is available for PC and passes all requirement for "Windows Defender SmartScreen " checks and we are currently working on a macOS version that passes all of Apples version of this called, "macOS Gatekeeper Notarization" Most of the development time right now is focused on overcoming technical issues required to pass Apple's notarization process. Once these issues are resolved and OrbRider has been notarized by Apple, you will no longer receive an "Unknown Publisher" warning when you first install the game for macOS. For now, you will need to refer to the instructions in the "OrbRider for macOS" post, to get around this error.

Download the latest OrbRider v1.4.9 and try out the new built-in radio and rhythm visualizer during your next ride! OrbRider and the new radio are free to play! Unlocking new biomes and side quests will require an OrbRider Premium subscription but the base game and this new radio will remain free to play for everyone. The radio can be found in the bottom left corner of the game screen next to the "Athletes" tab. Clicking the "Radio" tab will activate the radio and let you tune into your favorite radio station. Click the "Play" button to play the default station or use the filters to limit stations by genres or station name. The Rhythm visualizer can be disabled or changed to one of several available visualizer types. I'm still finding a few bugs as testing continues but it seems pretty stable overall. Check it out and let us know what you think!

Great News! We now have a macOS build for OrbRider! I have been testing it on a Mac with the following specs: Smart Trainer App for Mac MacBook Air (Apple silicon) macOS Big Sur Processor: M1 Memory: 8 GB RAM MacBook Pro (Intel) macOS Catalina or Big Sur Processor: Intel Core i3 Memory: 8 GB RAM Graphics: Intel Iris Plus Graphics 1536 MB 1. Download the game from the "Download" page, found in the top right corner of this website's navigation bar. 2. Move the "OrbRider" file from the "Downloads" folder into the "Applications" folder. 3. Launch OrbRider from the "Applications" folder. 6. Once the game is running (which may take 10 - 15 seconds to start), it may be really slow with a low "FPS" count displayed in the top right of your screen. If this number is below 20 FPS or the game is really choppy, then you may need to adjust your graphics settings in the game. I noticed a better performance on the Mac when I have the power cable plugged in (it seems to be slower on battery only power). 7.Press your "Escape" key until you see a small game menu appear.  8. Click the "Settings" button at the bottom of this menu. 9. Adjust the "Display Resolution" from the "Graphics" section in the settings menu to a lower resolution until you see the FPS hover at least around 20 or more FPS while the text and other interface controls remain in focus. 10. Once you have a smooth running (or fairly smooth) game, plugin your ANT+ stick and power on your smart trainer or simply start pedaling your bike to activate any speed or cadence sensors you may be using. Pairing your ANT+ Stick and Devices on macOS 1. In OrbRider, look for the various sensor indicators at the top of the game screen to turn green. 2. If your smart trainer doesn't turn green or display watts right away, try pedaling your bike for another 10-15 seconds to see if the game picks it up. There seems to be a bit of lag time in the process, which can take longer on battery only power. The pairing process is automatic. There is no way to manually pair devices in OrbRider at this time. I started out with a USB-c hub, and plugged the ANT+ stick into the hub as seen in the picture below. This setup almost works but there still seems to be a lot of interference, so I purchased a USB extension cable so I could get the little ANT+ stick adapter closer to my smart trainer and away from any interference created by this converter/hub device or the MacBook Pro device. I have tested this with both generic and Garmin brand USB ANT+ sticks using a USB-c to USB hub device on a MacBook Pro with the above mentioned specifications. Looking forward to your feedback and hearing how it works for anyone using macOS. Thanks, Jeff

This version includes the following performance and user experience updates. Terrain Updates Fixed random terrain flickering Updated terrain textures in "Orbville Hills" and "Mountain Valley" Fixed several places in the road where slices of the terrain was visible Bug fixes related to flying mode courses and route calculations Settings Menu Ability to resize the in-game web browser window used for signing into Strava ANT+ USB Stick and Sensors Removed the need to have your ANT+ stick and devices plugged in before you start the game You can now plug-in your ANT+ stick in any order and OrbRider should recognize and connect to it. NOTICE: It appears "Windows 10" can still put some ANT+ sticks into a sleep mode when not in use (This seems to happen with Garmin ANT+ stick). This issue has not been resolved. You will still need to remove and plug-in your ANT+ stick if your "Windows 10" power settings puts this device to sleep.

In this version you are now able to ride and fly in multiple biomes! The first three biomes that are currently available are named, "Orbville Hills", "Mountain Valley", and "White Desert". Orbville Hills You start the game in Orbville Hills and can return to this biome by clicking the citrine (yellow) gem icon in the action bar at the bottom of your game screen. Each biome has a biking and flying mode with the ability to travel in either direction by clicking the first "U-Turn" action button. The biking mode also supports "OrbRider Teams" in each biome. Mountain Valley Mountain Valley flying as the magical buck... White Desert

Increased Security Orbjeff LLC is now a verified publisher and has passed multiple validation steps to be granted an extended validation code signing certificate. This means that you will no longer receive security warnings and smart screen errors while downloading or installing the OrbRider software. You can now download and install OrbRider with increased confidence in the validity and security of our software. Strava Branding Compliance Strava is awesome and permits OrbRider to be compatible and capable of sharing your activity information outside the OrbRider software. In return, Strava asks that we follow some simple branding guidelines which have been implemented in this version. Sharing Health Related Information Your data privacy is extremely important to us and giving you the option to decide whether you want to share your heart rate data with other active riders has been added in this version. Sharing heart rate data is disabled by default. Navigate to the Strava section of the settings menu to enable sharing of heart rate data. Various minor bug fixes The most annoying bug was team members being automatically removed from a team even when this option was disabled. Many other minor bug fixes and user interface updates have been made.

I recently found another development team working on a really cool smart trainer app and wanted to share it will all of you. As the title suggests, the game is called SOL Cycling and offers you the experience to ride on Mars in a large multi-player environment. I just think its really cool that we are seeing more startup projects which only serve to broaden the content and experiences we can have while riding indoors this winter. Check out SOL Cycling: https://www.sol.bike/ Let us know if you tried it and what you think.

This version fixes an issue with automatically removing inactive team members after 2 minutes of zero power readings. You can now reset the game settings to the default values by using the "Default" button at the bottom of the settings screen. When you change the game resolution, a new confirmation window will appear asking "Did this work?". You can click Yes or No buttons to revert or retain the new resolution. If nothing is selected within 10 seconds, the resolution will revert to the previous value.

This version runs through the air at times. I'd like to work out the physics to to make him always run on the ground while bounding over rocks and other obstacles as you ride. I want to keep a good balance between both the riding and flying game modes by continuing to add new and interesting ways to ride with OrbRider!

In this version of OrbRider, the user settings will now properly save and persist each time you restart the game. It's apparent that some form of profile switching may be useful to people who are sharing a PC and equipment while at home. For now, the goal is to complete the testing for one profile and then move on to evaluating how best to manage multiple profiles. This release also removes the need to re-authorize OrbRider with Strava each time you start the game. This re-authorization process will still be required on an occasional basis or whenever you manually deauthorize OrbRider by clicking the red "Deauthorize" button in the Strava settings.

With the release of OrbRider v1.3.3.0 you will see a new feature which introduces the ability to ride with your friends. You must sign-in with your Strava account via the Settings menu for this feature to be enabled. The basic idea is that you can quickly build a cycling team with other online athletes. Team sizes are limited to 5 athletes at this time. You can let the game automatically add athletes to your team or disable this option and manually add athletes from the "Athletes" tab in the bottom left corner. The game doesn't add you to your own team by default, but you can do this manually if nobody else is online and you want to try it out. Just click the "Add To Team" button next to your name in bottom left corner. One of the things I really like about this approach is that the game never transmits any personally identifiable information (PII). The only data that is exchanged between clients to create this experience, is telemetry data from your sensors and a simplified name format of first name, last initial. If you have a Strava username defined, the game will use that instead. Known Issues: There are some issues I'm still working out with team member's overlapping each other at times but I expect to have that resolved in the next few releases. The primary issue I am working on is the game settings not saving and resetting to the default values each time you start the game. This means you have to keep signing back into Strava... sorry about that. The intent is that you will only need to sign into Strava every few months not each time you start the game. I'm looking forward to hearing what you think of OrbRider Teams! Jeff

OrbRider v1.3 is now available for download! This version is primarily a graphics optimization build, which makes the game playable on a wider variety of hardware running the Windows and Mac operating systems. In general, I've reduced the density and distance of the trees that spawn around your avatar. While this can make the horizon look more empty from various angles, it also increases performance. I've made several other optimizations, but the trees and horizon will be the most noticeable. You can now control the graphics quality from the settings menu. Thank you for all your support and interest in this project as I continue to make improvements. Sincerely, Orbjeff
